The November issue of Go, AirTran Airways’ magazine, is online and in flight. With the weather a sunny 70 degrees F, now is one of the best times to get out in Houston. Check out my top 19 things to do and places to go/shop/eat in Houston in this month’s issue.

I was minding my own business when out of nowhere a group of wandering Squires and marauding Savages mooned me at the Art Directors Club of Houston (ADCH) 52nd Annual Houston Show. Oh, yes. True to the show’s theme, they showed their asses–along with nearly 500 other entrants who put their creative asses on the line every day of the year.

Squires & Company swept the show, winning a cool dozen medals, including three Judges Awards and nine medals in graphic design. Savage Design Group took away seven medals plus a Judges Award. Murillo Design and Axiom Design Group snapped up five medals each. And Frank White stole the entire category of photography, winning four medals. I was particularly proud of Savage Design’s Daren Guillory who designed pieces that won three of their eight awards. When I was editor of Slant magazine, we had a student competition for the design of one of our issues. Daren had the winning design. I was there to see the start of an (apparently) award-winning career.

Kudos to all the winners of this year’s awards! I look forward to next year’s crop of (ahem) luminaries.
