From start to finish in just three weeks, GlobalWrites helped increase the following of a small collective of comic artists by 25% on Facebook and 28% on Twitter. The social media campaign centered around a contest to attract and engage followers by asking them to participate in the making of an interactive piece created by Cej, one of the founders of ArmzRace Comics. It culminated in being a featured piece at Fresh Arts‘ 8th Annual Winter Holiday Art Market, a 3-day juried art festival in Houston, TX.
Along with Cej, GlobalWrites conceived of the three-tiered contest that allowed fans to choose between two sketches for a possible piece. After a subject was selected, people were encouraged to submit punchlines for use in the piece. Cej then selected his favorites for use in the final. And we then asked people to vote for their favorite to select a grand prize winner of a framed, limited edition, interactive print.
“I had no idea that running a contest like this using social media would be so hugely successful in such a short period. I didn’t realize what a difference it would make to promoting my art and increasing exposure for ArmzRace Comics. The best part is that I didn’t have to do any of it! GlobalWrites made it happen – engaging meaningfully with our fans on both Twitter and Facebook, using hashtags to increase exposure, and learning about all of that from the pros,” said Cej.
ArmzRace Comics is as much about creating comics as it is about commiserating, educating, and sharing ideas, techniques and tools. They love knowing that people enjoy their work and that some even like it enough to buy it.
